In honor of this special day, I'm sharing a poem I wrote about my dad.
BIG SHOES
When I was small
I used to walk around
in his big shoes,
clumping through the house,
Playing, yes
but also proud of my daddy.
Strong and sure
Always there
to protect me -
Now that I have grown
It seems
that I have spent my life
Trying to follow
in his footsteps...
They are big shoes
to fill.
But he left a path behind
A character road
Footprints
of intelligence,
integrity,
honesty,
and fairness.
In following him
I have learned to be
a leader,
I have learned to be
a better person.
Through the years
some things have changed,
most have not.
I am still proud of my daddy
Strong and sure
Always there
To protect me -
And though his steps
are slowing,
They are still
worth following
And I do -
For I will always be
a young girl
Walking around
in his big shoes...

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, Dad!
Know that I have always loved you, and I always will!
***Wishing all you wonderful fathers a very Happy Father's Day!***
"Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, 'things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.'" (Ephesians 6:2-3)

"When in doubt, search God out!"
Precious! Thank you for sharing. Happy Father's Day and a very Happy Spiritual Sunday! :)
ReplyDeleteMany blessings Sharon... Beautiful! Beautiful tribute and way to HONOR your dad!!!
ReplyDelete"When Sharon was small

But Sharon is stepping up and nearly filling his shoes and her Heavenly Father's shoes by learning to make each day count as Sharon shares God and does Bible Pick 'Ems... she is doing that and I am honored to call you my sister and friend. Your footprints are getting closer especially when you walk with both Fathers on each side... your dad and our Heavenly Father, who reveals to you great secrets in how to fill those "big shoes" and follow His Son and His example as your earthly dad chose good qualities, so do you and you are pleasing in Your Father's eyes. Now that is love and true honor!
God's favor, love and peace... as you make today a Happy Father's Day for the men in your life,
Peggy
What a lovely poem and tribute to your father. And such a lovely reminder of the first of the ten commandments with a promise. A delight for this Father's Day. Thank you :)

I have pictures of my Emily clomping around in her daddy's shoes. She certainly does take after him in musical ability and sweetness of spirit. I want to clomp around in my Heavenly Father's shoes so that others can see I belong to Him!

Pamela

What a great tribute to your dad, he sounds like an amazing father:) I have been trying to comment on your previous posts, but blogger never allows me too. I have been having problems commenting on most people's blog, I think it may be a problem with blogger or the computers I am using. Anyway, I always enjoy your visiting your blog, but I have not been able to comment due to technical difficulties:). Thanks for your wonderful comments on my blog; I really appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteWhidbey Woman - WELCOME! Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. Please feel free to visit again sometime. So glad you enjoyed this poem.
ReplyDeletePeggy - What a lovely comment! Thank you so much for your very kind words. I am privileged to walk alongside Jesus - and it is an honor to serve my Heavenly Father. It's all to His glory.
Kaye - WELCOME and thank you! It's important to remember what God had to say in the Ten Commandments. It is God's command to honor our parents. I'm so lucky that they're both alive still - and it brings me pleasure to honor them.
Misty - I'm glad you enjoyed this one. My dad is a good father - and it is still my privilege to be "walking around in his shoes."
Alice - Thank you. Yes, it will be quite a homecoming when we all get to Heaven. I look forward to also seeing my grandfathers again. There will be many happy reunions with fathers of every kind. But, nothing greater than seeing the Father face to face.
Ginger - Thanks. I'm glad that my dad is still around, and that I can still express my love and appreciation to him.
Ken - Thank you. I wanted to give back a little something to my dad, who gives so much to me.
Pamela - Aren't those such sweet memories? And yes, I agree - clomping around in the Father's shoes makes us look more like Him! Isn't that what it's all about?!
Charlotte - Thank you. My dad was 6'3" tall, around 200 pounds - I'm short, 5'4". When I walked around in his size 12 shoes - they were huge on me! As far as his character - his shoes are still an honor to walk around in.
Toyin - I am fortunate to have a good dad. And it was a pleasure to give him honor this Father's Day. I have heard of many other people having trouble leaving comments. Thank you for your persistence, and it pleases me to know that you've enjoyed visiting. I love your blog, Toyin - and it is such a blessing to be consistently encouraged and challenged when I visit.
Hoping everyone had a good Father's Day. And most of all, may we never forget our Heavenly Father - the One who so unselfishly gave us His Son. Always remember His deep Love for us. And make it your desire to "walk around in His shoes"!
GOD BLESS!
