2 KINGS - My Word Will Not Fail!

You know, sometimes reading the Bible is like watching a good “soap opera” – (I know…good soap opera…oxymoron).

But the Bible isn’t a “tame” read!

It is chock-full of scoundrels, liars, idol worshipers, cheats, adulterers, murderers – in short, it’s full of REAL people!

Today’s “Bible Pick ‘Ems” comes from the book of 2 Kings.

WOW! Talk about kingdom intrigue!

The book of 2 Kings reads like a captivating novel, as king upon king, one after the other, enters and leaves the scene. Some good, some evil – all interesting.

At first I wasn’t sure how I was going to grab a “meaningful” verse out of what I was reading. But then it hit me. Listen to these verses from 2 Kings 10:10:

[King Jehu speaking] “You can be sure that the message of the LORD that was spoken concerning Ahab’s family will not fail. The LORD declared through his servant Elijah that this would happen.”

God’s prophecy CAME TRUE!

This verse, written about events that took place SO VERY LONG AGO, has a message for us TODAY!

God’s Word endures forever!

His Word and His promises can be trusted!

All that He says will happen!

He is faithful. He never changes. And all things will work out, just as He declared, just as He planned, just as He promised!

The message of the Lord WILL NOT FAIL!

“Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true…Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me…I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 22:6, 12-13)

“When in doubt, search God out!”

  1. Hi Sharon,

I've been reading through Kings as well and you're right when you say, "He is faithful. God's word is true!

Thanks for sharing a Pick 'Em this morning.

    Blessings and peace.

  2. MTJ,
Good morning to you! I'm headed off to church right now - but will read your post when I get back.

Praise the Lord, His Word is TRUE, and He is FAITHFUL!!

    GOD BLESS, my friend!

  3. just finished reading through 1st/2nd Kings; 1st/2nd Chronicles; always amazes me how many kings did evil, such a sad statement I do believe. But you are right, God's Word will never fail and it is always true! I counted it one time in the gospels and Jesus says "I tell you the truth" 77 times as he is teaching this or that. How many of us say that on a constant basis? I know I don't. God is to be trusted all the time indeed :)

    enjoy Sunday :)

  4. Betty,
I love what you had to say. I am also amazed at how many kings did evil. The thing that I noticed, too, is that they seem to alternate! An evil king would follow his good father - don't they ever learn? But, I guess we're the same way, aren't we?
Interesting about how often "I tell you the truth" is said! Yes, God is to be trusted indeed!

  5. who need soap operas and novels when we have this incredible book?! I love this post! thanks for sharing what the Lord is showing you!!

  6. Thank you, Mariel.
The Bible really is a remarkable book. The great sweeping story of God's love for man. (I hear it has a great ending, too!!)

  7. Hi Sharon - I posted about God's word standing forever this morning. I referenced Isaiah 40:8. Then I came here and found this post. I'm so thankful for His unfailing, forever, word.

  8. Joan,
There are "no accidents" with God!! The Spirit must be speaking to both of us.
That is such a great verse (Is 40:8) - it is such a comfort to be able to rely on the unfailing, unchanging Word of God - especially in a world that is so fleeting, and always looking for the "next quick fix" - you know?

    Blessings to you, too!

  9. Greetings -

He alone is GOD. How wonderful to have His blessed assurances.

    1 Samuel 3:19
And Samuel grew, and the Lord with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

    Isaiah 44:26
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers;...

"So I have been greatly encouraged in the midst of my troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives me new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How I thank God for you!"
(1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
