PSALMS - God Is Still On His Throne

God is still on His throne.

Do you ever forget that?

I know I do sometimes. It's a crazy world out there, and it seems like it's getting crazierevil is more evil, fear is more fearful, persecution is more persecuting…

Everything feels a little out of control.

I feel out of control.

Evidently, even if you're a man after God's own heart, you can feel this way.

Today's "Bible Pick 'Ems" was written by David (I will be sharing it in two parts):

"I trust in the LORD for protection.
So why do you say to me, 'Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!
The wicked are stringing their bows
and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings.
They shoot from the shadows
at those whose hearts are right.
The foundations of law and order have collapsed.
What can the righteous do?'" (Psalms 11:1-3)

David was forced to flee for his life several times. Yes, he was God's anointed king – but that didn't spare him from injustice and hatred from others. This psalm may have been written when he was being hunted by Saul (1 Samuel
18-31), or during the days of Absalom's rebellion (2 Samuel 15-18).

In both instances, David did run away – but he didn't run as if all was lost.

In the first part of this psalm, David seems to be speaking to those who are advising him to run from his enemies. His advisors were focused on the frightening circumstances and crumbling foundations.

David was focused on God.

Hear his response:

"But the LORD is in his holy Temple;
the LORD still rules from heaven.
He watches everyone closely,
examining every person on earth…
The virtuous will see his face." (Psalms 11:4, 7)

David had faith – faith in a God whom he knew was greater than anything his enemies could bring against him.

David knew God was in control.

Still in His Temple – still ruling from Heaven.

Faith in God keeps us from losing hope – and it helps us resist fear.

God is not diminished by ANY turn of events.

NOTHING catches Him by surprise. NOTHING happens without His knowledge and His permission.

That, my friends, consoles me greatly.

It's true that this crazy old world is getting crazier. And believers will not be shielded from difficult circumstances. God's Word tells us that this will be so. But God's Word also tells us how to deal with it.

When the foundations are shaking and you want to run away and hide – run to God.

OK, the wicked might be stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They might be taking potshots at us from the shadows. Even the foundations of law and order might be collapsing (watched the news lately??)…

Fear not.

I have a feeling that God is still sitting on His throne a throne that He told us we can approach BOLDLY!

"So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
(Hebrews 4:16)

God's rule provides stability in the midst of panic. And, because we trust Him, we can face our problems.

David knew it – and so can we.

God is still on His throne…

And we will see His face!

  1. Like so many others, the Psalms is my
favorite book in the Bible. I never
fail to find encouragement in reading
    those time-honored words inspired by
    the Holy Spirit.
It does seem everyone, even Christians,
are worrying way too much. We have to
make ourselves keep our hearts and minds
on our Lord who is on the throne!

  2. Blessings my sweet Sharon...so delighted to see you back... and I will be back as I ponder a bit more and go to church (maybe between services) but as I opened up to this blog post... the background voice of a online preacher was saying: "God is still on the throne"! WOW! He was right here, reading what I was seeing.. now that's God! And He definitely is in control. Only God! Only our gracious God!

Let us exalt Him as the King and all authority is His, seated High above us, on His holy throne!

Can never get enough of Him and His love... see ya' soon,

    Love,
    Peggy
    Just in time...

  3. A timely post. Just a few days ago, when I was feeling disheartened by all the bad news out there... I saw a cloud. It looked like a hand stretched out making the "Okay" sign. I smiled and thought to myself,"God is still on His throne. Its going to be okay."

  5. Very good, God is still on the throne and ruler of this universe. I was struggling with fear last week, but through one of the 365 promises and your post, I know I don't need fear in my life for God said He would supply our every need as long as we trusted Him and I do trust Him. He has done so much for me, my husband, my children and my parents (who are resting in the arms of God) that I am so thankful for and I KNOW HE WILL SEE US THROUGH whatever comes our way. There's a song He'll take you through the fire again, and that is so true. Thanks for sharing and giving me a boost and I'm sure it's helped others.

  6. Ohhh Sharon... so many good truths here!

I did ponder on this yesterday and today, and I really have nothing much better than when I came here the 1st time saying I'd be back. Except declaring and praising Him for being on the Throne...even if we forget or in the craziness of this world it does not seem like it... I will remember this mostly:

NOTHING catches Him by surprise. NOTHING happens without His knowledge and His permission.

Yet here we are again with knowledge that we believe, we have in our heads but yet many times, it does not seem like the All Powerful God (Wizard of Oz) is in control. I should not tease lightly on this (for whom so ever may read here)... but this really goes well with the follow up post today on God's Silence. Too many times we know God is in control, but everything is so shaken that we wonder... God, are you there? (it's me,margaret)

You have made some excellent points from David all the way to Hebrew's throne room. I'm just so thankful that God does rule and He calmly takes control of the roughest storm, and makes it peaceful. Now that's control. A case in point, of me believing this so powerfully... we have had torrential downpours in the night for a week and it will be continuing due to "DORA" off shore and heading north along the coast... but the other night, the thunder and lightening was loud and frightening (to my dogs, not me...lol)
Yeah, right...I came out of the storms of the midwest... anyways... I did just that "I went to the throne of God... I proclaimed Him as all powerful, in control, can calm the sea... and He can take that loud, sound effects out of this...
and in a moment after praising Him, He did.

I heard silence... and I thanked Him.

Thank You Father Creator that You alone can calm the storm, diffuse the power and make me focus on You as the One, the Almighty... tears run down my face as I recall that moment, that You heard me and responded in a moment... before panic or fear or more water flooded my front entrance... You cared. And I thank You for showing me the miracle of the moment. I am truly blessed and humbled by Your awesome control. You deserve all my praise and all the glory! Thank You!

So... not only do I see Him on the Throne but He hears me from that throne and knows my voice. Like David, I could face the storm and trust the END! Boldly knowing His power, His control, His love and grace. Another rumble just echoed again outside... yet confidently I know He is in control! Thanks Sharon! Hoping you can rest assured and move forward under this Majestic control!

    Love and peace,
    Peggy

  8. How wonderful it is God is still on the throne and all the forces from the enemy cannot remove Him. We must not lose sight of that as you rightly said, "Everything feels a little out of control" and "it's getting crazier."
Thank you Sharon for this post and God bless,
    Ken

  9. I'm so glad God gave us these examples from the life of David. It is so comforting to know that God is still on His throne when things here on earth get so "crazy". Thank you for this reminder.
    Blessings,

  11. Will you ever be able to know how much I appreciated each of your comments? They have fortified me today. Life has been a little crazy for me this past week - and I have felt so out of control. I had to read once again my own post, and let God speak to me again. And then, your comments became His words to me, too. Oh, thank you for encouraging me today.

May we all (especially me right now) KNOW that God is still on His throne - and we can approach Him boldly because HE LOVES US!!

    GOD BLESS!

"So I have been greatly encouraged in the midst of my troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives me new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How I thank God for you!"
(1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
